Lesson Plans Day 1 & 2: What is gentrification?
In Day 1 of our gentrification curriculum the may goal is to have to the students be able to define gentrification. The topic will start off by having the students fill out a survey about their neighborhood. Once the students pinpoint key attributes of the Humboldt Park neighborhood, we will then show then photos of a gentrified Cabrini Green Neighborhood. Students will then compare and contrast photos from both neighborhoods.
Day 2 involves a guest speaker as well as a movie to show how the gentrification of Cabrini Green has effected the people living there. Students will then discuss how Humboldt Park has changed in past years, and compare the changes to Cabrini Green.
Please look at the "Art of Photography" tab to view the gentrification process of Humboldt Park and Cabrini Green.
Please watch this movie regarding the effects of gentrification on the people of Cabrini Green: http://vimeo.com/11024235
